Apple releases new iPad with 128 GB of storage

Apple added a new member to its iPad line on Tuesday, offering a 9.7-inch Retina iPad with 128 gigabytes of storage -- doubling the tablet's previous max capacity.

Everything else about Apple's tablet is the same, including the dual-core A6X processor, 2 gigabtyes of RAM, and 10 hours of battery life.
To account for the added storage space, the 128 GB Wi-Fi model will now cost $799, while the LTE model will cost $929.
To offer some differentiation from its other iPads -- which start at $329 for the iPad mini -- Apple is targeting the new model primarily at professional users, including those in the architectural and medical fields who handle large files. Gamers, movie fans and avid magazine readers are also likely to appreciate the extra storage space.
The abrupt release marks a shift in how Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) is updating the iPad. Instead of rolling out new iPads once a year or so, as it does with iPhones and iPods, Apple is now treating the iPad more like its Mac line, releasing incremental updates to existing models. (Tech blogs began publishing leaked reports about the new iPad two days ago.)
In late 2012, Apple released a fourth-gen iPad with new processor a mere six months after the release of the third-generation Retina iPad. Much like in this most recent update, all other specs remained the same.
Apple has not explicitly announced this strategy shift, so it's an open question whether or not we'll see a more significant iPad update this year.

New Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Leaked Images Confirm Tablet, Specs

The official announcement Samsung’s new 8″ Note tablet is still some weeks away but it looks
like the cat is already out of the bag. Earlier today SamMobile posted what looks to be a leaked spec sheet for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
The image at right came from a locked account on Twitter, so there isn’t much background info on the source.  But what I can see basically confirms the  leak from last Thursday, including the screen resolution (1280×800), 1.6GHz quad-core CPU, 5MP and 1.3MP cameras, storage, connectivity, and that this tablet will be equipped with the S-Pen found with the Galaxy Note, Note 2, and Note 10.1.
If the image below is correct then this tablet looks something like a cross between the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and the Galaxy Note 10.1. There’s still no word on price but yesterday the head of Samsung confirmed that the Note 8.0 is going to be unveiled next month at Mobile World Congress.

Galaxy Note 8 specs :

  • 16/32GB storage with microSD up to 32GB

Microsoft Surface Pro Shipping February 9th In U.S. And Canada For $899

If you have been hoping to pick up a Microsoft Surface Pro this month as
your late Christmas present, you may be disappointed, since the shipping date has been pushed back slightly, to February 9th, in both the United States and Canada, along with several accessories to please anybody’s ‘wants’ and ‘needs’.
The Surface Pro is the high-end edition of the Microsoft Surface, sporting Windows 8 Pro (unlike the Surface RT which comes bundled with Windows RT), and will be available in two models: a 64GB version for $899 and a 128GB model for $999, if you have more music, pictures and video files to store, or are just a power user who regularly runs lots of programs. Both of these drives are solid state, therefore these machines should be able to boot Windows 8 in a matter of seconds, making the Surface perfect for those on-the-go-users who are looking for a great mobile and slimmed-down working environment.

On February 9th as well, Microsoft intends to ship several accessories for both Surfaces, starting with an external Touch Cover, a screen cover that converts into a keyboard, which already ships by default with the Surface RT. For stylish users, the Redmond company is also releasing the Touch Cover Limited Edition, featuring unique laser-etched designs in several distinct colors. These are, however, quite expensive, selling for $129.99 in the United States and in several other countries shortly, although Microsoft hasn’t detailed which markets it intends to reach with this stylish – albeit expensive – product.

For customers wishing to purchase a Surface RT, Microsoft is also making available, on February 9th, a standalone version without the Touch Cover keyboard, allowing users to choose other forms of input if they wish, such as a Type Cover, which features physical keys instead of a touch keyboard.

Microsoft promises more announcements soon as the February 9th launch date approaches, although little is known about what might be unveiled:
“We’re extremely excited to share more about Surface Windows 8 Pro and the growing Surface family of products. We’ll have additional information as we get closer to Feb. 9.”

iPad 5 Design Leaked by Foxconn Staffer – Report

Apple’s next major iPad upgrade will adopt design elements akin to the diminutive iPad mini released in October 2012, according to
a Chinese source citing a Foxconn employee.

Customers have responded extremely well to the diminutive tablet computer, and Apple now seems poised to implement some of its benefits on the larger iPads.

The fifth-generation iPad has already been rumored to adopt a thinner bezel and sloping edges much like the smaller iPad mini.

An insider from Hon Hai Precision Industry (which owns Foxconn) is now spilling the beans on Apple’s chosen design for the iPad 5, as the media refers to it.

Originally quoted by My Drivers (a Chinese IT site), this Hon Hai insider is reportedly a Foxconn employee. Foxconn assembles most of Apple’s portable gadgets, including the iPhone and the iPad.

Patently Apple cites the source as saying that “the iPad 5 is to sport a new design that will adopt narrow bezels and chamfered edge corners. The end result will have the new iPad 5, code named ‘sapoxx,’ look more like a magnified iPad mini.”

If the rumors are true, Apple could have the fifth-generation iPad ready for us this spring.

The Cupertino mammoth seems to have accelerated the refresh cycle of its tablet computers, likely in response to demand, as well as the competition.

The same thing is reportedly about to happen on the smartphone front. Up until this week, Apple was rumored to plan the launch of two new iPhone models. Many analysts believe one of them will be a low-end phone that everyone can afford.

On Monday, however, reports started to emerge that Apple was actually planning to launch three new iPhones in 2013, one of which is dubbed “Math.”

Like others, we believe there’a a good chance the rumor is fabricated, and that includes the name of the alleged 4.8-inch handset – “iPhone Math.” Videos of ipad 5

NTT DoCoMo to release low-cost tablet in Japan: Nikkei

The new tablet will be able to connect to the Internet via wireless LAN, but will not be compatible with 3G or LTE high-speed wireless services.
Mobile phone service provider NTT DoCoMo Inc will soon release a low-cost tablet computer in Japan priced
between 10,000 yen ($110) and 15,000 yen, the Nikkei reported.

The tablet will be made by China's Huawei Technologies Co and feature a 10-inch screen, the Japanese business daily said.

The new tablet will be able to connect to the Internet via wireless LAN, but will not be compatible with 3G or LTE (Long Term Evolution) high-speed wireless services, the newspaper reported.

Telecom equipment maker Huawei has diversified into the mobile devices area selling dongles, mobile phones and tablet PCs, aiming to tap the fast-growing sector.

The new product will be launched by this spring, for sale at DoCoMo Shops and electronics mass merchandisers throughout Japan, the daily said.

Apple Inc, maker of the iPad, already faces stiffening competition in tablets from a growing crowd of rival products from makers, including Samsung Electronics Co Ltd with its Galaxy and Microsoft Corp's Surface.

With the consumer shift to smaller 7-inch screen devices, tablet-makers have responded with Apple coming out with its iPad mini, Amazon.com Inc with its Kindle and Google Inc with its Nexus 7. ($1 = 89.7950 Japanese yen)

Sony's Xperia Tablet Z announced: 1.5GHz quad-core, 10.1-inch 1,920 x 1,200 screen and 6.9mm thickness

Sony's Xperia Tablet Z announced 15GHz quadcore, 101inch 1,920 x 1,200 screen and 69mm thickness

Sony's Xperia Tablet Z announced: 1.5GHz quad-core, 10.1-inch 1,920 x 1,200 screen and 6.9mm thickness

Announced bright and early in Japan today is the Sony Xperia Tablet Z that we've been hearing about. As you'd expect, this 10.1-inch Android 4.1 tablet features the same design language as its smartphone counterpart, but it's what's inside that really sells this device: a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core APQ8064 processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, a 10.1-inch 1,920 x 1,200 screen (with Mobile Bravia Engine 2), an 8.1-megapixel Exmor R camera, NFC, LTE (MDM9215M radio), microSD expansion and Sony's very own "S-Force" virtual surround sound technology. Amazingly, these are all packed tightly into a 6.9mm-thick, 495g-heavy body which not only takes a huge leap from the retiring Xperia Tablet S, but it also beats the Toshiba Excite 10 LE that was once the champion in both fields. That's right, Sony now has the world's thinnest and lightest 10-inch tablet! Oh, and did we mention that the Tablet Z is both waterproof and dustproof as well? We'll update you guys once we get hold of info on pricing and availability.
Update: For those wondering, Blog of Mobile says this new tablet packs a 6,000mAh battery, which is actually a tad smaller than the Excite 10 LE's 6,690mAh cell. Hopefully Sony's power management will bring its tablet up to about the same mobility performance.

China Market and Mini Tablets are Expected to Breaks the PC Mold

front
A new study claiming that tablet shipments are to overtake notebook shipments globally for the first time this year, thanks to China market and smaller tablet. The report explains that tablet shipments will reach more than 240 million units worldwide this year, with notebooks forecast to reach 207 million units. The report also states that smaller 7 to 8-inch tablets will grow to account for 45 percent of the tablet market in 2013, with 9.7-inch devices like the iPad dropping to a share of 17 percent. Tablets also appear to be currying favor in emerging countries across the world, with fast-growing global power China set to become the second largest tablet market in 2013 …
According to the electronic product research firm DisplaySearch, Tablet computer sales will reach 240 million devices, overwhelming sales of laptops this year while Apple is expected to maintain market dominance with projected 64 percent growth. The sales of China-made tablet computers are also expected to reach to 60 million devices, accounting for 27 percent of the country’s tablet market. Smaller display sizes on the newest generations of tablet computers will be more popular than the original 10-inch displays. Tablets with phone capabilities will be the potential trend for the next wave. Around 10 percent of tablet computers are expected to be equipped with phone functionality by the end of the year.
in001
iPad is expected to maintain the tablet market dominance.
Smaller Android-based tablets are getting popular.
Tablets have screen sizes ranging from 7 inches to 10 inches, while notebook computers range from 10 inches to 17 inches. Tablets are focused on convenience, while notebooks are built for performance. But that growth rate for laptops will slow as consumer tastes shift from performance to convenience. Tablets are more responsive and accessible, easy to carry, and more intuitive to use. The mix of tablet sales may change. With the Jelly Bean 4.1 version of the Android operating system, Google finally has an excellent software that could jumpstart the tablet market beyond the iPad.
Apple’s 9.7-inch tablets have ruled to date. But we expects the emergence of new screen sizes at 7 inches or so, as reflected in devices such as the Google Nexus 7 and various type of China-made tablet which is Cheap and practical, will be getting more demand from consumer, especially in China. Apple iPad mini is already doing quite well in Chinese market. As a matter of fact, small tablet are expected to become our future personal computer.
