LG may be back as the second top phone manufacturer in the US

Yup, after years of poor performance in the mobile phone sector, LG may actually be back on track. We last heard that they've sold some 55 million handsets in 2012, even though their Optimus G was not doing terribly well, selling only 1 million units during the first 4 months of its availability.
But hey, perhaps due to the incredible popularity of the competitively priced and Google-sanctioned LG Nexus 4 (pictured left), LG managed to outgrow Apple's 13% US market share.
According to Counterpoint Research, LG actually scored a market share of 14% in the US. Now how's that for a comeback? We are yet to see where this would take them in the quarter that lies ahead.
Of course, we would advise anyone at LG to wait for a second confirmation from another market research agency before popping up that champagne.
On a side note, Samsung is still the market leader in the US with a 33% market share in the same period.

It looks like LG (066570) is starting to get its mojo back. Yonhap News reports that new data from Hong Kong-based Counterpoint Research shows that LG has climbed over Apple (AAPL) to become the second-largest handset vendor in the United States. Counterpoint’s numbers, which include sales of both feature phones and smartphones, show that LG had a 13% market share in the U.S. this past December, while Apple had a 12% share. Both companies still significantly trailed Samsung (005930), however, which dominated the American handset market with a 33% share in December. Counterpoint said that LG benefited from strong holiday sales of its Optimus G smartphone, which the company has set up as a competitor with Samsung’s hit Galaxy S III line.

Sprint Readies LG Mach for Nov. 11, Begins Optimus G Pre-Orders

Sprint Readies LG Mach for Nov. 11, Begins Optimus G Pre-Orders

LG Mach Sprint today has been busy making announcements about its new 4G LTE devices. After offering up availability and pricing details for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablet, Sprint has now provided more information about its 4G LTE smartphone lineup.
First up, the new 4G LTE LG Mach (left) smartphone will be available from Sprint beginning Sunday, Nov. 11. The phone is priced at $99.99 with a new line of service or eligible upgrade and two-year service agreement.
In addition, the carrier has opened pre-orders for the LG Optimus G smartphone (below, right), which will cost you $199.99 with a two-year contract.

So which one should you choose? Besides the obvious price difference, the LG Mach offers a full QWERTY slide-out keyboard and a 4-inch screen, which should provide easy access for writing emails, texts, and instant messages on the Android 4.0 operating system. The LG Mach was described by Sprint as an "ideal entry point to 4G LTE."
LG Mach owners can select from a variety of mobile ID packs featuring applications, ringtones, wallpapers, and widgets. The device has a 1.2-GHz dual-core processor, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and 0.3-megapixel VGA front-facing camera.
The higher-end Optimus G, meanwhile, also also runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but sports Qualcomm's new quad-core Snapgdragon S4 Pro processor and a 4.7-inch True HD 1280-by-768-pixel display. There's an advanced 13-megapixel camera on the back and 1.3-megapixel front-facing shooter. Other specs include a high-density 2,100mAh battery, 2GB RAM, and up to 32GB of memory.
You can pre-order the LG Optimus G on Sprint's website now.
When PCMag tested the Optimus G last month, senior analyst Jamie Lendino noted that the device is trim and finely cut, and feels "surprisingly thin and light."

LG sells 1 million Optimus G units and counting

LG sells 1 million Optimus G units and counting

LG just announced it has sold worldwide more than a million units of its flagship smartphone - the Optimus G. A similar recent announcement put their L-series sales in the range of 10 million.
The LG Optimus G sale numbers come in a stark contrast with Apple and Samsung flagship sales, but then again, there's a reason these guys are high on the list of the top mobile phone manufacturers.

Other reports claim that LG has sold a total of 55 million handsets in 2012 but plans on boosting their sales up to 75 million in 2013.
LG has had some troubles in the past few years, but their last Q3 results have shown the company is back on its feet, ready to fight back the big dogs.
A leak from earlier today, showing the LG Optimus G Pro, may suggest they already have the right weapon in their armory.
